The objective of Mount Toro Career Day is to present the Mount Toro students with motivation and insights into existing career opportunities by introducing them to a variety of top industry leaders in Monterey County, to demonstrate to the students that they each have an opportunity for a bright future, with or without a college degree.

Prior to the event, the student body at Mount Toro was surveyed and chose these career sectors as their top 9 choices: Healthcare, Computer Technology, Public Safety, Military, Media, Hospitality & Tourism, Cosmetology, Education and Small Business Ownership. Top industry leaders from each of these sectors were asked to participate by giving presentations on their background and education, the basic skills needed for success in their specified industry, and how high school education built a foundation for their current success. This allowed the students to ask questions regarding the specific sectors, submit their current resumes, and hear some quality suggestions and information pertaining to each sector.

The Career Day consisted of a morning and afternoon session. Each session included a keynote speaker, a successful student alumni speaker, a motivational skit, and informational sessions presented by employment representatives designed to speak directly to the students. This enabled the students to realize that the community embraces them as our future workforce once they complete their education.

Mount Toro High School is one of the finest continuation campuses in the State of California. Their building is attractive, functional and enjoyed by both staff and students. Mount Toro provides a unique setting for at-risk students with small classes and individualized schedules designed to meet the needs of each student. Students demonstrate their appreciation for their school by keeping the school free of debris, graffiti and violence. Staff and students are proud of their small school and this is reflected in the positive attitude one can see daily here on their campus. Mount Toro is a school in which students experience successes, which have previously eluded them. It is a place where each individual can discover what he/she can do and is encouraged and supported in doing it well.
